Suzanne Treister - Alchemy

Suzanne Treister - Alchemy, originally uploaded by twenty2woblog.

Suzanne Treister is an artist that delivers heavily conceptual works in a wide range of media. Much of her work deals with the history and politics of war and the project above reformats newspaper headlines. Drawing connections in the headlines she constructs a complex hidden alchemy in the modern world. I really need to see these pieces up close to appreciate the complexity and detail. via Phantasmaphile

Seen over at NOTCOT is the work of Brooks Salzwedel. This work really speaks to me and I have designed with a similar aesthetic but I really love the layered resin technique employed here.

Sean McGaughey

Sean McGaughey, originally uploaded by twenty2woblog.

Another mixed media work, this time by Sean McGaughey. When I first saw his painting I thought it was a Barry McGee, one of my favorite artists. Sean's work is about the dialogue he has while painting. The process of making the painting shows through even after covering up 'mistakes'. The finished product is far from a mistake however. Read an interview here.
